Straight answers.
Quick answers for RootRecord desktop programs (Windows). Every app has a free local tier you can use without paying; a rootrecord.info account unlocks paid plans, sync, and other online features when you want them.
Install & updates (Windows)
How do I install?
Each program lists its download on its own page. Start from Products, then open RootRecord Business Manager or Root Record Weather Manager for the latest installer links.
Web account
How do I create an account?
Open Account on this site to sign up or sign in. If you use the rootrecord.info web app, you can also use Sign up and manage your profile at Account.
What plans exist?
See Pricing for Free, Monthly, and Lifetime in plain language. The Billing page and Terms have the full legal detail. Your desktop apps may use the same account and plan where the product is set up that way.
Billing, renewals, and downgrades?
Monthly subscriptions renew until you cancel through Account or your payment provider’s self-service where available. Rules for cancellation, downgrades to Free, and data retention are in Terms — plans and billing and on the Billing page when you’re signed in.
RootRecord Business Manager (desktop)
Where is my data stored?
Your operational database file is stored locally on your computer (the app shows the path). Back it up like any important file; the app can run scheduled local backups.
Do I need an account?
No for core local work: you can open the app and use the free tier without signing in (you’ll see the sign-in screen each launch until you create an account or sign in). A RootRecord account is for Pro features, cloud sync, optional secure online backup, and staying signed in across restarts.
Why do "hours worked" totals differ from a raw sum of rows?
Overlapping clock intervals are merged for unique clock coverage so you are not double-counted when two blocks share the same minutes.
Can I use the app offline?
Yes for core local workflows. Checking subscription status, sync, and secure online backup need connectivity when you use them.
What if payment is past due or I cancel a paid plan?
Paid features may be limited or the app may switch to read-only until billing is current, depending on the product. After you cancel Monthly, your account typically returns to Free limits. Use Billing on the web or in-app links to update payment or review status.
Root Record Weather Manager (desktop)
Do I need an account?
No to try the app locally: you can continue without signing in on the free tier (the sign-in screen appears each time you open the app until you sign in). A RootRecord account unlocks Pro features, normal live data refresh limits, and sign-in that persists.
Can I use it offline?
Core data you’ve already saved stays on your PC. Live hazard feeds (NOAA, USGS, NASA EONET, etc.) need the internet. On the free tier without an account, live refreshes are limited (once per 24 hours); signing in removes that cap for eligible plans.
Where is my data stored?
Your database and backups stay locally on your computer unless you turn on optional features that use our servers.
